Yes. Confirm the park, the permit timeline, and any group area options first, then ask the character company whether they can perform at that location and what setup they need.
Bridgeport is a city with a lot of public park space, so a kids' birthday visit often starts with picking a park that works for your guest list. Before you settle on a character and a location, it helps to know that city parks have their own rules that apply to outside events.
Bridgeport's parks cover nearly 1,800 acres of public space, which is why the city is nicknamed Park City. That gives you plenty of options, but a larger park is not automatically a better fit for a party. Think about shade, open lawn, and how far guests will need to walk from parking. Ask the park's managing office what areas are available for group use before you commit to a spot.

If your party is held in a city park, you will need to apply for a permit, and requests should be submitted at least 30 days before the event. Some event types also need further approval from the board of parks commissioners, so ask early about which category your party falls into. Once you have a date, confirm the permit timeline with the city before you finalize any plans with a performer.

Ask the character company whether they will perform at your chosen park and what their setup needs are. Check whether a shaded spot or a covered area is available if the weather turns warm. Ask what activities the performer can offer for your group size, such as a welcome greeting, games, or a photo moment, and confirm these with the company rather than assuming they are included.
