Maryland has many public spaces that host birthday parties, from county park pavilions to community centers. Because each jurisdiction sets its own reservation rules, it helps to know which local rules apply before you choose a character and a date. The notes below cover the venue facts we could verify and some questions to ask so your party fits the space.
Several Maryland public facilities are built for gatherings of this kind. Howard County Recreation and Parks describes its park pavilions and meeting rooms as a good fit for birthday parties, large family gatherings, and school picnics. Ask the facility whether outside entertainers are allowed and what setup the room needs for a character to perform comfortably.

Howard County facilities can be booked up to one year ahead, and many are in high demand. Requests are reviewed first come, first served, so a weekend spring party may need an early request. Calvert County's Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center takes bookings no more than 90 days out and at least seven days before the event, handled first come, first paid. Plan your date with those windows in mind.

Calvert County allows picnic shelters at Dunkirk District Park and pavilions at Hallowing Point Park and Cove Point Park to be reserved. Calvert also prohibits alcohol and smoking in picnic areas and in its parks, so plan the food and décor with that in mind. Ask the park whether a character visit fits within your reserved area.

At Thomas Farm Community Center in Rockville, the multipurpose rooms can be combined into a single 1,800-square-foot room or divided by a movable wall into two rooms. That flexibility can suit a quiet corner for a character visit alongside a separate activity table. Confirm the layout you need when you book.

Ask whether the facility allows outside performers, whether a sound system or extension cord is available, how much open floor space is free for the character, and where guests can gather during the visit. You can also ask how the space works for any activity you would like to add, such as a craft table or games.
