Yes. Offer a low-pressure choice, such as a group photo or a short dance, and let children participate at their own pace.
In Byron Township, make the character's arrival feel easy to join: let children watch from their seats or come forward when ready. A short hello, a favorite pose for photos and one group activity can give the visit a clear shape without asking every child to perform. These are statewide planning checks and parent suggestions, not verified township venues or policies. Before choosing an outdoor setting, settle the weather plan and confirm the visit details with the organizer and character-visit team.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.

National Weather Service guidance calls for a designated weather monitor; confirm a practical route to the backup space with the venue. This does not establish local permits, shelter reservations or entertainer availability.
