Offer a wave or watching as choices alongside a closer greeting. Avoid asking a hesitant child to perform or pose.
Pick a spot with clear space and good light, and ask families before taking or sharing pictures. Keep the route accessible.
No. Confirm the specific property, reservation, access and entertainment permission with its operator. Ask us separately about character program and availability.
For a Devereux Heights celebration, organize the character moment around a spot where the group can gather without feeling crowded. A short hello followed by an optional wave, conversation or photo gives children different ways to take part. Let the birthday child know the plan beforehand and keep a trusted adult nearby. These are statewide planning checks, not verified Devereux Heights venues or local policies. State picnic listings do not confirm a local location or reservation. Confirm venue permission, and ask our team about program details, cost and availability.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Illinois DNR provides a directory of state park picnic locations. Use it to identify the exact state-managed property, then check its shelter booking process, facilities and access with the operator. A picnic listing is not a reservation or approval for hired entertainment, and it does not establish rules for municipal parks.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
