Let them stay beside a trusted adult and choose whether to wave, speak or watch. Do not make photos a requirement.
Share the greeting plan and photo timing beforehand, so guests know when to gather and when to give the child space.
Do not assume so. Confirm venue permission separately and ask us about theme, program details, costs and availability.
A Hawthorn, Pennsylvania character visit works best when the child has time to warm up. Start with a friendly greeting, offer a wave as an alternative to close interaction, and let photos happen when the child is ready. Guests can take part in a short shared activity or simply watch. These are statewide planning checks and parent suggestions, not verified Hawthorn venues or policies. Confirm a pavilion reservation rather than relying on a date request. Ask us about the requested character theme; program details, costs and availability need confirmation.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Pennsylvania DCNR publishes payment conditions for confirmed state park picnic pavilion reservations. Check the current confirmation and cancellation process before treating a requested date as secured. Confirm the exact pavilion, access and permission for hired entertainment with its operator; the pavilion payment and the entertainer's quote are separate arrangements.

National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup.
