Let the child stay with a caregiver and watch. Offer a wave or photo only when they seem ready.
Invite a shared greeting or group photo. If individual photos matter, have one adult organize turns at a relaxed pace.
No. It is an Edison municipal example only. Check the exact venue and operator for local facilities, permissions, and booking conditions.
For Hewitt, New Jersey, keep the character visit centered on the child rather than a long sequence of activities. A familiar adult can introduce the character, while the birthday child chooses between a wave, a quick photo, or a closer greeting. Give guests a simple group role, such as waving together, and leave room for children who prefer to watch. If you are weighing an outdoor location, verify the exact operator and plan a real indoor backup. Tell our team what pace suits your child; confirm program details, costs, and availability.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
As a city-scoped example within New Jersey, Edison municipal parks provide the published park amenities directory. Edison publishes a park amenities directory with pavilion, picnic grove and playground fields. Use the directory to check facilities for your group, then ask the responsible venue about reservations and paid entertainment; an amenity listing does not reserve it. This example applies only to Edison's listed municipal facilities; other cities and state-managed parks have separate operators and rules. Confirm the exact venue's reservation process and permission for hired entertainment.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
