Let the child stay with a trusted adult and watch first. A wave, a distant photo or no interaction are all reasonable choices.
Pick a single photo area and have an adult invite a few guests at a time. Leave room for children who prefer to pass.
Share the date, address, guest ages and requested character theme. Confirm program details, costs and availability with our team, and ask the venue separately about permission.
In Kirkwood, New Jersey, make room for a character visit that follows the children's pace. Guests can greet the character with a wave, watch from beside a caregiver or join a group photo when ready. Ask us about the character theme and a manageable visit program; confirm details, costs and availability with our team. Statewide planning checks do not verify Kirkwood venues or policies. The supplied park-directory example applies only to Edison, not Kirkwood, so check any actual venue with its own operator before inviting an entertainer or arranging the party.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
As a city-scoped example within New Jersey, Edison municipal parks provide the published park amenities directory. Edison publishes a park amenities directory with pavilion, picnic grove and playground fields. Use the directory to check facilities for your group, then ask the responsible venue about reservations and paid entertainment; an amenity listing does not reserve it. This example applies only to Edison's listed municipal facilities; other cities and state-managed parks have separate operators and rules. Confirm the exact venue's reservation process and permission for hired entertainment.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
