Let the child watch from beside a trusted adult, then choose whether to wave, speak, or join a photo. Avoid making contact a requirement.
Offer a simple choice: join a group greeting or wait for a quieter turn. Tell guests ahead of time that participation is optional.
Ask about the planned visit activities, timing, cost, and availability. Share the venue's rules and any photo or accessibility needs.
In Middleton, New Hampshire, plan the character visit around the child's comfort rather than a packed schedule. A gentle hello, a short chance to talk or wave, and a few unhurried photos can make the special moment feel manageable. Tell the character team the child's preferred name, any shyness or sensory concerns, and whether they would rather watch first. Statewide planning checks are not verified Middleton venues or local policies: confirm the exact site, activity permission, and current conditions yourself. Program details, costs, and availability must be confirmed with the theme provider.

New Hampshire State Parks warns that visitors without reservations may be turned away when Monadnock State Park is full. If considering this state-managed property, check its current day-use parking process and access conditions. A parking reservation is not a group shelter booking or permission for hired entertainment, and this example does not describe every park in the state.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
