Our character visits start at one hour, and longer visits are scheduled in 30-minute increments such as 1.5, 2 or 2.5 hours. Pick the length that fits your guest count and how much time you want for games and photos.
Shelters and picnic areas are run by the park, so check with park staff whether outside entertainers are allowed in the space you want before you commit.
Rock Cut State Park lists five shelters for groups of up to 50 people, which you can reserve online. Confirm the exact shelter and capacity you plan to use.
Ask the venue what its backup plan is if rain or storms arrive. An open shelter is not the same as an enclosed building, so confirm where guests would go.
Rockford gives families several outdoor and park settings to consider for a children's birthday, and the right character visit depends on where the party happens. Before you settle on a theme, it helps to know what kind of space you're booking and whether the venue has rules about outside entertainers.
Rock Cut State Park is one place families look at in the Rockford area. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources lists five shelters there for groups of up to 50 people, which can be reserved online. Picnic areas are also spread throughout the park, and each has tables, outdoor stoves and pit toilets. Shelter capacity and picnic setups are useful to compare when you think about how many guests and adults you expect, and how much room a character would need to move around.

Before committing to a date, ask the venue manager whether outside entertainers are permitted and whether any use fees or permit steps apply. Confirm which shelter or area you would reserve, whether it is open or enclosed, and how close the parking is to the party space. Ask as well how the park handles weather backup plans, since an open shelter is a different thing from an enclosed building.
Choose a theme first, then match the visit length to the number of guests and the activities you want. Our character visits begin at one hour, and longer visits are booked in 30-minute steps, such as 1.5, 2 or 2.5 hours. Ask the entertainer which activities suit your group, such as a meet-and-greet, games or a sing-along, and treat any of these as options to discuss rather than a fixed package.
