First clarify your gathering date and space. A requested date is not a confirmed reservation, and venue permission for hired entertainment should be checked separately.
Keep the schedule short and predictable. Offer a greeting, one simple group activity, and a choice to watch instead of participate.
Provide the party timing, guest ages, and any space limits. Confirm the requested theme, program details, costs, and availability.
For a Shellsburg celebration, settle the gathering date and space before shaping the character visit around it. If you are considering a state park cabin, lodge, or shelter, review its current change and cancellation terms before coordinating dates; a reservation request is not the same as permission for hired entertainment. Once plans are clearer, keep the visit easy to follow: greeting, one participatory activity, and optional photos. Ask us about your requested theme and confirm program details, costs, and availability.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Iowa DNR publishes a deadline for changing cabin, lodge and shelter reservations. Review the current change and cancellation conditions before coordinating the gathering date with an entertainer. Verify the exact shelter or lodge and the proposed activity with the operator; a reservation change policy is not permission for hired entertainment.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
