Let the child watch first and approach only when ready; a wave can be the whole greeting.
Invite a few willing guests at a time and keep other children with their adults.

In Admire, a comfortable character visit can start small: the birthday child watches from a familiar adult's side, then decides whether to say hello. Give guests a simple shared activity and let photos happen by choice. If the gathering is outdoors, make the move-inside plan clear before guests arrive. Before contacting us, choose who will welcome the character and who will keep the group organized. Program details, costs, and availability need confirmation.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
Official source (opens in a new tab)Choose an adult to monitor the forecast and decide when to move the group indoors. National Weather Service guidance calls for a designated weather monitor; confirm a practical route to the backup space with the venue. This does not establish local permits, shelter reservations or entertainer availability.
