In Alberta, Minnesota, build the party around a steady pace and a clear plan if weather changes. The birthday child can choose a first hello with a parent beside them or watch from a comfortable spot. Keep photos optional and offer guests a small shared activity, such as waving together. Assign an adult to guide the character to the gathering area and manage the schedule. Before the event, send the character-visit team the child's preferred name and any preferences. Confirm program details, cost and availability.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.

National Weather Service guidance calls for a designated weather monitor; confirm a practical route to the backup space with the venue. This does not establish local permits, shelter reservations or entertainer availability.
