They can wave, watch from a trusted adult's side or join later. Let them set the pace.
Use one simple activity with turns, and tell the adults helping how photos and transitions will work.
Check venue permission separately, then ask us to confirm theme, program details, costs and availability.
A useful Boskydell party plan starts with the child's preferred way to meet the character. They can wave, watch with a parent or step forward for a photo when ready. Give guests turns with a short, easy activity rather than asking everyone to gather around at once. If looking at state-managed picnic sites, identify the exact property and check its facilities and rules with the operator. Ask us to confirm theme-provider program ideas, costs and availability.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Illinois DNR provides a directory of state park picnic locations. Use it to identify the exact state-managed property, then check its shelter booking process, facilities and access with the operator. A picnic listing is not a reservation or approval for hired entertainment, and it does not establish rules for municipal parks.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
