Let them watch first and choose a small step, such as waving or standing beside a trusted adult for a photo.
Tell guests where to wait and that greetings will happen in turns. This keeps room for the child to pause or opt out.
After checking venue permission and reservation conditions, ask us to confirm the requested program, costs and availability.
For a Brushy birthday, build the visit around one clear highlight rather than a packed schedule. The birthday child might choose a quiet greeting first, then invite friends to join a short group photo or simple activity. Keep a nearby seat or calm corner available, and tell guests where to gather so the arrival feels easy. If your date depends on a state-managed reservation, review its change conditions before coordinating the visit. Ask us about the requested theme; activities, costs and availability require confirmation.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Iowa DNR publishes a deadline for changing cabin, lodge and shelter reservations. Review the current change and cancellation conditions before coordinating the gathering date with an entertainer. Verify the exact shelter or lodge and the proposed activity with the operator; a reservation change policy is not permission for hired entertainment.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
