Let the child watch from a comfortable distance or stay with a trusted adult. There is no need to press for a greeting or photo.
Share the planned visit time and let families know that participation is optional. Have one adult help gather children for photos.
No. Confirm activity permission with the space operator. Ask us to confirm the requested theme, program details, costs and availability.
For a Dougherty party, consider keeping the character visit as one clear part of the day rather than the whole schedule. A friendly greeting can lead into a brief photo opportunity and a simple invitation for children to join in, with watching as an equally welcome choice. Allow time to settle the group before the visit. Check the reservation terms for any space you are considering, and confirm the theme and program details, costs and availability with our team.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Iowa DNR publishes a deadline for changing cabin, lodge and shelter reservations. Review the current change and cancellation conditions before coordinating the gathering date with an entertainer. Verify the exact shelter or lodge and the proposed activity with the operator; a reservation change policy is not permission for hired entertainment.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
