Yes. Let them stay near a trusted adult and decide whether to wave, talk or join later. Avoid making participation a requirement.
Choose one clear spot and let guests take turns. Keep the child's participation optional, with room for a break.
No. Check the exact location's group arrangements and activity permissions with its operator. A visit request also needs separate confirmation from us.
In East Candia, give the child of honor a simple way to join the character visit without requiring a big performance. They might wave, sit beside a parent for a photo or watch while guests join a short activity. Ask us to confirm the requested theme, possible program, visit length, cost and availability. For an outdoor gathering, make a weather backup part of the plan. If considering a state-managed site, check the exact property's current access and arrangements rather than assuming one park's rules apply everywhere.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
New Hampshire State Parks warns that visitors without reservations may be turned away when Monadnock State Park is full. If considering this state-managed property, check its current day-use parking process and access conditions. A parking reservation is not a group shelter booking or permission for hired entertainment, and this example does not describe every park in the state.

National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
