In Gladwin, Michigan, give the birthday child a few gentle ways to welcome the character: wave from nearby, say hello or join a photo. Once the child has had a moment, offer guests a simple shared activity, while keeping it fine to watch instead. For an outdoor gathering, decide in advance who will monitor conditions and help children move inside. Tell the character service the child's interests, timing and group size. Confirm the program, cost and availability directly; asking about a date is not a booking.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.

National Weather Service guidance calls for a designated weather monitor; confirm a practical route to the backup space with the venue. This does not establish local permits, shelter reservations or entertainer availability.
