Let the child stay near a trusted adult and watch first. Offer a wave, conversation or photo only if they want one.
The reservation route does not establish that. Ask the shelter operator about permission, access and conditions before planning the visit.
Share the date range, address, visit window, guest count and costume theme. Confirm the program, cost and availability directly with us.
For a Halibut Cove gathering, keep the character moment flexible and easy to join. A quiet hello can lead into a wave or photo, then a short activity for guests who want to participate. Give the birthday child room to observe first, and ask one adult to help organize the group and keep the visit on schedule. If planning around a shelter, confirm the exact booking and access details before making arrangements with our team.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Alaska's Refuge Cove State Recreation Site publishes an online reservation route for its picnic shelter. Check the specific shelter, date and access conditions rather than assuming every state park works the same way. Ask the operator about permission for a hired character visit; the reservation route alone does not establish that permission.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
