Offer a wave from a trusted adult's side and let the child watch first. They can decide later whether to approach or pose for a photo.
Invite willing children to join a brief birthday cheer or group photo. Make watching an equally welcome option.
Check venue permission, access and any relevant booking terms with the operator. Ask us about the requested character, program details, costs and availability.
A good Hansen Hills character visit can leave room for the birthday child to warm up at their own pace. Begin with a wave or a greeting from a parent's side, then offer a photo when the child is ready. Guests can join for a short cheer, while others watch comfortably. California state accommodation policies apply to overnight bookings, not automatically to daytime parties. Verify the exact location and activity rules with its operator, and ask us to confirm character program ideas, costs and availability.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
California State Parks' reservation policies on this page cover overnight accommodations, including camping and lodging. If your plan includes an overnight stay, check the accommodation-specific booking and cancellation conditions. A camping reservation does not establish permission for a daytime birthday gathering or hired entertainer; confirm those separately with the relevant operator.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
