Offer a choice to watch, wave or approach later. A caregiver can stay nearby, and no child needs to participate.
Prepare the date, location, age range, guest count and any access considerations. Ask our team to confirm program details, costs and availability.
Tell guests where to wait, keep a clear path to the greeting area, and let the birthday child take the first turn if they want it.
For a gathering in Kokhonak, build the character visit around a comfortable first moment: the birthday child might wave, watch from a parent's side, or say hello when ready. A brief group activity followed by optional photos helps keep the pace manageable. Confirm the location and its rules directly; an Alaska shelter listing does not establish local facilities or permissions. If you are considering an outdoor plan, settle an indoor alternative and a clear weather decision process before guests arrive.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Alaska's Refuge Cove State Recreation Site publishes an online reservation route for its picnic shelter. Check the specific shelter, date and access conditions rather than assuming every state park works the same way. Ask the operator about permission for a hired character visit; the reservation route alone does not establish that permission.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
