Designate an adult before the party. Share the plan with other organizers so guests receive one clear direction.
Let them watch with a trusted adult first. A wave or photo can wait until they feel ready.
Check the gathering space and its rules with the operator. Ask us to confirm character program details, costs and availability.
For a character visit in Lima Township, Michigan, give one adult a clear weather role and keep the child's greeting flexible. That adult can watch conditions and guide guests if plans change, while another organizer helps the child decide whether to wave, talk or take a photo. A simple group activity gives everyone a way to join without requiring a turn. These are statewide planning checks, not verified township venues or local policies. Confirm the venue's access and rules directly, then ask us to confirm program details, costs and availability.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.

National Weather Service guidance calls for a designated weather monitor; confirm a practical route to the backup space with the venue. This does not establish local permits, shelter reservations or entertainer availability.
