Keep the greeting short and familiar: a wave, a hello, then a photo or quiet activity by choice.
Ask a trusted adult to invite children in small turns and let anyone watch instead.
Check the venue's access, backup location, and activity rules. Ask us about character, program, cost, and availability.
In Midland, Michigan, make the weather plan part of the organizer's checklist before shaping the character visit. Assign one adult to watch conditions and guide everyone to the backup if needed. The character can greet the group indoors or outdoors, then offer the guest of honor a choice of a photo or a quiet wave. Give children time to decide whether to join. The available guidance supports general planning only, not verification of Midland venues, permits, or policies.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.

National Weather Service guidance calls for a designated weather monitor; confirm a practical route to the backup space with the venue. This does not establish local permits, shelter reservations or entertainer availability.
