Start with the character greeting the whole group from a little distance. Let the child decide whether to approach, wave or take a photo later.
Invite a group wave or a brief, seated activity. Ask guests to wait their turn for photos and keep the child's space clear.
Check current facility conditions and operating information with its operator, including permission for hired entertainment. Confirm the theme, visit plan, costs and availability with us.
For a Monticello, New Mexico gathering, make the chosen space part of the plan rather than assuming every park shelter has the same setup. Once the operator confirms the location, give the character visitor a clear meeting point and let the birthday child choose how to say hello. A short photo moment and an optional group activity can keep participation comfortable. These are statewide planning checks and parent suggestions, not verified Monticello venues or local policies. Ask us to confirm theme, program details, costs and availability.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
New Mexico State Parks directs visitors to specific park pages for group shelter reservations. Review the chosen facility's current conditions, operating information and alerts rather than applying one set of amenities to every park. Ask the operator about your gathering and hired entertainment before committing to the location.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
