Let them watch first or greet from a comfortable distance. They can decide whether to move closer.
Offer one brief song or cheer and allow children to participate at their own comfort level.
No. Check gathering space and entertainment permission separately with the park. Confirm the character program, costs and availability with us.
A New Concord character visit can begin with the birthday child choosing how to say hello: a wave, a brief conversation or watching nearby. That small choice makes it easier for guests to follow the child's lead. Set up photos where there is room to approach and step away, then offer one short group activity for anyone who wants to join. If an overnight stay is part of the plan, treat it separately from birthday gathering approval. Ask us to confirm visit details, costs and availability.

Kentucky State Parks' FAQ describes reservations for lodge rooms, cottages and campsites. If the plan includes an overnight stay, check the current booking and cancellation conditions for that accommodation. Contact the actual park about separate gathering space and hired entertainment; an overnight reservation does not establish birthday eligibility or event permission.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
