Offer a wave or a little space first. Let the child choose whether to approach, talk, or simply watch.
Invite a group photo, then offer individual pictures without requiring every child to pose.
Ask us about the requested theme, program details, costs, and availability. Confirm venue permission and setup with the facility.
In North Cove, give the birthday child time to get comfortable before the character visit begins. A wave from across the room can feel easier than an immediate hug or close-up photo. Ask us about a simple program with a gentle greeting, a short story or game, and a clear moment for pictures. Let children join by watching, answering a question, or taking a turn when ready. Before choosing an outdoor setting, make a weather plan and check directly with the facility about access, setup, and permission for hired entertainment. Program details, costs, and availability must be confirmed with our team.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Washington State Parks identifies reservation types that require its call center. Check the actual facility type and booking channel before trying to secure a picnic shelter or group space online. Verify access, setup and permission for hired entertainment separately with the operator; a reservation route is not event approval.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
