Offer a wave, a short hello, or the option to watch. Keep the choice open and avoid making a photo or greeting feel required.
Invite children in small groups for a question or photo, with a caregiver nearby. Leave space for anyone who wants to observe instead.
Name the weather monitor, confirm the indoor route, and ask the venue about permission for hired entertainment. Ask us to confirm program details, cost, and availability.
In Raco, Michigan, make the visit feel predictable by telling children what will happen first: a hello, then a choice to greet, take a picture, or watch. Keep the birthday child near a trusted adult and invite guests to participate one at a time. If the gathering is outdoors, decide who will monitor weather and guide a move indoors. Ask us about the character theme you have in mind; program details, costs, and availability require confirmation.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
Official source (opens in a new tab)Choose an adult to monitor the forecast and decide when to move the group indoors. National Weather Service guidance calls for a designated weather monitor; confirm a practical route to the backup space with the venue. This does not establish local permits, shelter reservations or entertainer availability.
