Let the birthday child choose between a wave, a short hello, or watching first. Do not make a hug or photo part of the greeting.
Invite children to join an activity or watch from nearby. Have an adult manage turns so the birthday child has space.
Confirm the site's access and rules with its operator. Ask us about character activities, timing, cost, and availability.
A Strasburg celebration can feel more relaxed when the character moment has a simple shape: greet the birthday child, offer a photo, then invite guests into an optional activity. Prepare a place where children can take turns without crowding or blocking access. Illinois' state picnic directory can help identify state-managed sites, but local facilities are unverified. Confirm the space and its rules directly, and ask us about program details, cost, and availability.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Illinois DNR provides a directory of state park picnic locations. Use it to identify the exact state-managed property, then check its shelter booking process, facilities and access with the operator. A picnic listing is not a reservation or approval for hired entertainment, and it does not establish rules for municipal parks.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
