Offer a wave, a photo from a comfortable distance or time to watch first. Avoid making a greeting or hug a requirement.
Keep the entrance clear, have a helper gather guests and tell the character team about any preferences or sensitivities.

For a Vanzant party, keep the character's first moments predictable: a friendly hello, time for the birthday child to look, then an invitation to join a photo or simple group activity. Let guests know they can participate from their seats or wait their turn. Before the day, choose a gathering layout that gives the child room to step aside and gives the character a clear entrance. Share the requested date and ZIP code with us to ask about a visit; confirm details, cost and availability with our team.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Missouri State Parks says enclosed shelters, venues and meeting rooms require advance reservations. Check the exact facility type and current booking conditions, since open picnic shelters can follow a different process. Confirm the gathering layout and permission for a hired character visit with the operator; this policy does not establish entertainer availability.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
