Introduce the character calmly and offer watching or waving before any closer interaction. Let the child set the pace.

In Waimea, a thoughtful character visit can begin with the birthday child choosing where to stand: near a caregiver, at the edge of the group or closer to the guest. A brief greeting or wave can lead into an optional photo. Keep the rest of the group occupied with a simple shared gesture, leaving children free to watch. Before the event, the organizer should confirm the gathering point and backup plan. Ask us about a visit for your requested theme; confirm program details, cost and availability.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Hawaiʻi State Parks publishes a reservation and purchase process for pavilion permits alongside camping and lodging permits. The booking window and conditions can differ by island and facility, so check the exact pavilion and dates. Describe hired entertainment to the park operator and confirm whether additional permission is needed; this is not guidance for every beach or private venue.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
