Let them stay beside a trusted adult and observe before deciding whether to wave or approach. A photo can wait until they feel ready.
Offer one simple activity and make participation optional. A designated adult can guide turns and keep the birthday child's space clear.
Check site suitability and activity permission directly with the operator. Ask us about character program details, cost and availability; a request is not a confirmation.
A character visit in West Swanton can give the birthday child a clear, low-pressure moment to meet their chosen theme: a wave, a short hello or a photo, depending on what feels comfortable. Keep the rest of the visit simple with one group activity and the option to watch. If your plans involve a remote state-managed camping site, first check whether it is suitable for a gathering at all; this guidance is not a birthday venue recommendation. Prepare an indoor weather alternative and ask us to confirm program details, cost and availability.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Vermont's Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation publishes site-specific occupancy information for its remote camping sites. If a plan involves one of these state-managed remote sites, check capacity, access, sanitation and drinking-water arrangements before proceeding. This camping guidance is not a birthday venue recommendation or permission for hired entertainment, and it does not describe every Vermont park.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
