Start with a greeting from a comfortable distance. Offer the child a choice to wave, talk or watch with a trusted adult nearby.
Share the meeting point and explain that photos or activities are optional. Invite guests forward in small groups to keep the space manageable.
Check the exact location's reservation process, access and permission for hired entertainment. Confirm program details, cost and availability with our team.
For a Wilbern celebration, begin with the setting and then shape a character visit that fits it. A calm hello can lead into a brief story, dance or photo moment if the child wants to join; confirm any specific activities with our team rather than assuming they are included. Let guests know where to gather and keep the photo space clear. Illinois state guidance can help identify picnic locations, but it does not establish a Wilbern venue. Check the exact site before making plans.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Illinois DNR provides a directory of state park picnic locations. Use it to identify the exact state-managed property, then check its shelter booking process, facilities and access with the operator. A picnic listing is not a reservation or approval for hired entertainment, and it does not establish rules for municipal parks.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
