Watch conditions and make the move indoors when needed. Agree on the route and signal with the venue and other adults before guests arrive.
Offer a quiet hello, wave or later photo. Keep a trusted adult close and let the child choose whether to take part in a group activity.
Ask us or our team about the requested theme, program details, cost and availability. Separately verify venue permission and weather arrangements with the operator.
For Americus, Kansas, give the organizer a practical role that keeps the party calm: welcome the character, explain the indoor plan and let the child choose the pace. A wave can be the whole greeting at first; a photo or group activity can follow if the child is comfortable. State-level guidance here offers weather-planning suggestions, not verified city venues or policies. Ask us or our team about the requested character theme, then confirm program details, cost and availability before building the schedule.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
Official source (opens in a new tab)Choose an adult to monitor the forecast and decide when to move the group indoors. National Weather Service guidance calls for a designated weather monitor; confirm a practical route to the backup space with the venue. This does not establish local permits, shelter reservations or entertainer availability.
