That is fine. Offer a wave from a trusted adult's side and let the child decide whether to approach.
Invite guests to join a photo or greeting one at a time, while making watching an equally welcome choice.

In Gratz, Kentucky, keep the celebration plan separate from any overnight booking: accommodation reservations do not by themselves approve a birthday gathering. Check event arrangements directly with the operator of the space you choose. For the character visit, begin with a calm introduction and let the birthday child pick a small role, such as waving, watching, or joining a photo. Invite guests to participate without making it a requirement. Before reaching out, note the ZIP code, date, preferred time, child's age, and any participation preferences. Our team can confirm program details, costs, and availability.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Kentucky State Parks' FAQ describes reservations for lodge rooms, cottages and campsites. If the plan includes an overnight stay, check the current booking and cancellation conditions for that accommodation. Contact the actual park about separate gathering space and hired entertainment; an overnight reservation does not establish birthday eligibility or event permission.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
