Let the child stay beside a familiar adult and choose whether to wave, speak or approach. Guests can wait for an invitation before joining.

Choose a familiar photo spot and let the birthday child decide when to step in. A group picture can be optional, with smaller photos afterward.
A relaxed Kokhanok celebration can give the birthday child time to notice the character before joining the group. Start with a wave or a quiet hello, then invite guests to take part in one easy activity if they wish. Save photos for a moment when the child feels comfortable, rather than making the greeting a performance. Alaska publishes a reservation route for a particular state recreation site shelter, but that does not verify a venue in Kokhanok. Confirm location permissions and plan for weather before setting the schedule.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Alaska's Refuge Cove State Recreation Site publishes an online reservation route for its picnic shelter. Check the specific shelter, date and access conditions rather than assuming every state park works the same way. Ask the operator about permission for a hired character visit; the reservation route alone does not establish that permission.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
