Yes, if the party is in a city park shelter, reserve the space first through the city's online permitting system so the date is secured before you finalize the entertainer.
The city's park shelter reservations office can be reached on weekdays between 8am and 4pm.
That depends on the specific space and its rules, so ask the venue directly whether outside entertainers and outdoor performances are allowed at the location you choose.
Share the birthday child's age, the number of guests, and whether you want games, a story, or a more relaxed visit so the entertainer can plan around your goals.
Pittsburgh has many neighborhoods, parks, and community spaces, so a character birthday visit here depends a lot on where the party will be held. Before you pick a character, it helps to know who controls the venue and what that venue expects from outside entertainers.
Parks, shelters, and recreation facilities in the City of Pittsburgh are reserved through the city's online permitting system, which launched in December 2025. Create or sign in to an account there and look at what the space allows before you commit to a date. If you have questions about a shelter booking, the city's park shelter reservations office can be reached by phone on weekdays from 8am to 4pm.

Ask the venue whether outside entertainers are permitted, whether a power outlet and tables are included with the booking, and how early you can arrive to set up. Also ask what the timing rules are for a private party in that space. Keep the answers in writing so you can refer to them on the day.
Once the venue is settled, think about the children's ages and what they will enjoy. A favorite character works well for younger guests, while older kids may enjoy a more interactive session with games or a short story. These are options to discuss with the entertainer, not included features, so confirm exactly what you want in advance.
