Let the child choose a wave, a close-up hello or time to watch before joining.
Start with the birthday child and family, then invite guests in small turns if the child is happy to continue.
Confirm capacity, access and permission for the visit or equipment. Ask us to confirm theme, program details, cost and availability.
In Thiells, a character visit can work well when the gathering space and activity plan fit the group. Before choosing a state park pavilion, check the exact site's capacity, layout and booking conditions, then ask about hired entertainment and equipment. At the party, let the birthday child greet the character with a wave or from a comfortable distance. Keep photos brief and invite guests to participate by choice. These statewide checks do not verify a Thiells facility or policy. Confirm theme, program details, cost and availability with the service.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
New York State Parks describes a range of pavilion and event rental sizes and amenities. Check the exact facility's capacity, layout and regional booking conditions before choosing a gathering plan. Confirm whether a hired character visit and any equipment are permitted; the statewide rental page does not establish that every activity or date is available.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
