Offer watching, waving or a greeting as equal choices. Let children join later without calling attention to them.
Choose a simple spot with enough room and good light. Ask the child first, and keep photos optional.
Ask us about the requested character's program, cost and availability. Confirm the setting's rules and schedule with its operator.
In Crowders, make the character visit a calm centerpiece rather than a tightly timed production. Ask the performer to begin with a wave from a comfortable distance, then let your child choose whether to approach, chat or simply watch. A short photo moment can follow when the child feels ready. Before choosing a setting, verify the specific gathering space and its rules: the guidance below is statewide or national, not confirmation of local venues or policies. Confirm program ideas, cost and availability with our team.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
North Carolina State Parks notes that facilities can have limited hours. Check the exact shelter or room's permitted use period, layout and reservation conditions before setting the entertainer's arrival and departure times. Ask the park about hired entertainment separately; a facility reservation does not establish approval for all party activities.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
