Let the child observe from a comfortable spot, with a trusted adult nearby. They can choose to wave or approach later.
Set a clear photo spot and invite children in small groups. Keep the birthday child's turn optional and brief.
Ask about the requested theme, visit format, timing, costs and availability. Check venue access and entertainment permission separately; an inquiry is not a booking.
For a Diomede gathering, keep the character moment easy to follow: welcome the birthday child, offer guests a chance to wave or ask a question, and leave room for quiet observers. Plan the photo moment where children can join without forming a tight crowd. State recreation-site details in the supplied facts concern Refuge Cove, not a verified Diomede facility, so check the exact venue and its rules directly.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Alaska's Refuge Cove State Recreation Site publishes an online reservation route for its picnic shelter. Check the specific shelter, date and access conditions rather than assuming every state park works the same way. Ask the operator about permission for a hired character visit; the reservation route alone does not establish that permission.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
