Let the child watch from beside a parent, then offer a wave or greeting when ready. Keep the first interaction brief.
Invite guests to take turns for a photo or offer a simple hello. Watching quietly should remain an acceptable choice.
Ask us about the requested theme, visit program, timing, costs, and availability. A date request alone does not secure a visit.
For an Erie, Kansas gathering, put the weather plan in place before settling on outdoor activities. A designated adult can watch conditions while another organizer welcomes the character and gives the child of honor a quiet first moment. Offer a choice between a short greeting and a photo, then invite guests to join only if they wish. Before the day, confirm the route to an indoor backup and ask the actual venue about its rules. These are statewide planning checks, not verified Erie facilities or policies.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.

National Weather Service guidance calls for a designated weather monitor; confirm a practical route to the backup space with the venue. This does not establish local permits, shelter reservations or entertainer availability.
