Many parents settle the date and space first, then pick a character whose visit fits the room. A quieter indoor room may suit a story-style visit, while a larger space may allow more movement and games.
Ask whether outside entertainers are allowed, whether you may use your own microphone or speaker, and where the entertainer can set up before guests arrive. Venue rules differ, so get the answers in writing.
No. An open pavilion does not protect people from lightning. If storms are forecast, plan to move the party indoors to a fully enclosed building.
Discuss the visit length with your entertainer when you book, then pick a venue whose booking window and setup time fit that plan.
Fort Wayne has several city-run spaces that families often consider for a birthday party. Before choosing one, it helps to know which kind of space you are looking at, since a community center and a park pavilion are booked and equipped in different ways.
The Fort Wayne Community Center is a city-run rental venue in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The city describes the center as audio-visually equipped with a full-service kitchen facility, which may matter if you want music or a slideshow during the visit or plan to serve food. Ask the center directly how its audio-visual equipment can be used with a costumed entertainer and whether you may bring in your own sound system.

The city's rental information says alcohol is permitted at the Fort Wayne Community Center and that there are no restrictions on catering. Those details are useful if you are planning a family gathering with adult guests. Confirm the current rules with the center before you plan the menu, especially if you intend to bring in a caterer or bakery of your own.

For an outdoor option, the City of Fort Wayne parks department offers rental facilities, including pavilions and wedding areas, that can be reserved online. A pavilion is an open shelter, so it suits a sunny afternoon better than a rainy one. Ask the parks staff what happens if the weather turns, and plan a backup indoor plan with your entertainer in advance.
