Let the character greet from a comfortable distance first. Offer a wave or photo as choices, and let the child decide whether to approach.
Invite children to answer a simple question, pose for a group photo or watch quietly. Ask us which activities are part of the requested theme visit.
Check the venue's access and event procedures, and ask us to confirm the program, cost and availability. A date or ZIP code request is not a reservation.
In La Junta, plan the character visit around one clear moment: a friendly hello, a child-led photo, then a short activity guests can join or watch. Keep the schedule flexible so a shy child can warm up without being put on the spot. Before choosing an outdoor gathering area, check its actual surface, seating, shelter and access, then ask the operator about your gathering and hired entertainment. These are statewide Colorado planning checks; they do not verify a La Junta venue or its rules. Ask us about the character theme, program details, cost and availability before you build them into the plan.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife explains that group-area amenities vary by state park. Check the actual shelter, surface, seating and access arrangements for the chosen group area before planning games or a character entrance. Ask the park about the proposed hired entertainment and any event procedures; listed amenities do not establish approval or availability.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
