Begin with a group greeting and let the children watch before inviting anyone to come closer.
Tell guests photos are optional, choose a convenient spot, and have an adult organize turns without calling out reluctant children.
Check site permission and facilities with the operator. Ask us to confirm the character program, costs, and availability.
In Lac du Flambeau, build the visit around a few relaxed moments rather than a packed schedule. Children might begin with a group hello, then choose a photo, a short conversation, or simply a chance to watch. Share the timing with caregivers so no one feels rushed into participating. Before settling on an outdoor location, confirm its facilities and rules with the operator and have an indoor backup. Ask us about confirmed program details, costs, and availability.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Wisconsin DNR describes the reservable picnic shelter at its MacKenzie Center and its booking route through the State Parks reservation system. Treat this as one state-managed facility example: check the actual shelter, nearby facilities and conditions with the operator. Confirm permission for a hired character visit; the listing does not establish rules for every Wisconsin park.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
