Offer a greeting, a photo, or the option to watch from beside a trusted adult.
Let children gather gradually and make posing optional. A wave or a nearby place in the frame can be enough.
Ask the operator about the specific shelter, available facilities, and permission for the planned entertainment and equipment.
In Lake Delton, a little structure can help a character visit stay relaxed. Set aside a short welcome, a photo opportunity, and time for children to choose whether to interact or watch. Tell guests where to gather so the birthday child is not surrounded all at once. If you are considering a picnic shelter, check what the particular site offers and what it allows before building your plan around it. Ask us to confirm program details, costs, and date availability; no visit is booked by inquiry alone.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Wisconsin DNR describes the reservable picnic shelter at its MacKenzie Center and its booking route through the State Parks reservation system. Treat this as one state-managed facility example: check the actual shelter, nearby facilities and conditions with the operator. Confirm permission for a hired character visit; the listing does not establish rules for every Wisconsin park.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
