Let them watch beside a trusted adult. Participation and photos should remain optional.
Ask about permitted hours, space layout, reservation conditions and whether hired entertainment is allowed.
Make the McFarlan character visit fit the party's pace, rather than asking children to move through a rushed sequence. A calm greeting, one short shared activity and an optional photo moment can give everyone a way to take part. Keep a little transition time around the visit, and let guests know where to gather. If considering a state park room or shelter, check the permitted use hours before setting the character's arrival. City venues are not verified in the available guidance. Ask us or our team about the requested theme and program; confirm timing, costs and availability.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
North Carolina State Parks notes that facilities can have limited hours. Check the exact shelter or room's permitted use period, layout and reservation conditions before setting the entertainer's arrival and departure times. Ask the park about hired entertainment separately; a facility reservation does not establish approval for all party activities.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
