Let the birthday child watch or wave first, with a trusted adult nearby. Offer a photo or greeting only when the child seems ready.
Invite friends forward in small turns for a wave or group pose. Keep a clear space around the birthday child and let guests opt out.
Confirm the gathering location, photo spot, and indoor route with the venue. Ask us to confirm the visit program, cost, and availability.
At Miami University, make the character visit easy to follow by giving one adult responsibility for the schedule and another for guest photos. The birthday child can begin with a wave or a quiet look, then choose a pose or invite friends to join. Keep the activity brief and leave room for breaks. For an outdoor plan, prepare an indoor route before guests arrive and name an adult to monitor the weather. Tell our team the child's preferences and group size; program details, cost, and availability must be confirmed.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
Official source (opens in a new tab)Choose an adult to monitor the forecast and decide when to move the group indoors. National Weather Service guidance calls for a designated weather monitor; confirm a practical route to the backup space with the venue. This does not establish local permits, shelter reservations or entertainer availability.
