Let the child stay near a trusted adult and watch the greeting first. Offer a wave or photo only if they show interest.
Invite guests to join a short group activity or photo, while making watching an equally acceptable choice. Keep the transition between activities calm.
Ask us about visit details, costs and availability. For outdoor plans, confirm the backup location and route with the venue before the gathering.
At an Ottawa Lake, Michigan gathering, children may enjoy a character visit more when there is time to watch before joining. Start with a friendly hello, then offer a small choice such as a wave or a photo. Keep guest participation optional and the organizer's plan straightforward. For an outdoor party, settle on an indoor backup and identify the adult who will monitor conditions. Ask us to confirm the visit's details, costs and availability, so you can plan the rest of the gathering with care.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.

National Weather Service guidance calls for a designated weather monitor; confirm a practical route to the backup space with the venue. This does not establish local permits, shelter reservations or entertainer availability.
