Let the child watch from beside a trusted adult or wave from a distance. They can approach later if they choose.
Choose a brief, optional photo opportunity and ask an adult to gather only guests who want to be included.
Confirm site conditions and permission with the operator. Ask our team to confirm the requested character theme, program details, costs and availability.
For a Rancho West party, give the birthday child a choice about how the character visit begins: a wave from across the room or space, or a closer hello with a photo. Guests can follow with a short group moment while others watch. For a possible state park shelter, verify the exact site's conditions before planning around it. These are statewide planning checks and parent suggestions, not verified city venues or policies. Confirm requested themes, program details, costs and availability with our team.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
New Mexico State Parks directs visitors to specific park pages for group shelter reservations. Review the chosen facility's current conditions, operating information and alerts rather than applying one set of amenities to every park. Ask the operator about your gathering and hired entertainment before committing to the location.

National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
