Begin with a wave or a look from a comfortable distance. Let the child approach when ready, without making a hug or photo part of the greeting.
Invite guests to take turns with a simple wave or group pose. Keep one adult nearby to guide the line and leave the child room to opt out.
Confirm the address, timing, arrival contact, indoor plan, and requested theme with our team. Program details, costs, and availability need confirmation.
For an Arlington, Massachusetts character visit, plan a small welcome that gives the birthday child time to warm up. Let the character greet from a little distance first, then offer the child a choice: wave, say hello, or watch beside a trusted adult. Keep the first photo optional and let the child decide whether other guests join. Before choosing an outdoor setup, identify an indoor fallback and agree on who will make the weather call. Ask us about the requested costume theme, program ideas, costs, and availability; details must be confirmed.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
Official source (opens in a new tab)Choose an adult to monitor the forecast and decide when to move the group indoors. National Weather Service guidance calls for a designated weather monitor; confirm a practical route to the backup space with the venue. This does not establish local permits, shelter reservations or entertainer availability.
