Augusta has several city-run outdoor spaces and facilities that families sometimes consider for a birthday party. Before you settle on a character, it helps to know who manages the space you want, how far ahead to plan, and what questions to raise with the venue. This page is a starting point for that planning.
Augusta's special events office coordinates many citywide events and serves as the central contact for special events in the city. For rentals of specific named spots, such as the picnic shelter at Diamond Lakes Regional Park, the Julian Smith Casino, the Barbeque Pit, the Old Government House, Gracewood, the amphitheater, or the Augusta Common, the city directs people to call the special events office. Athletic fields are handled separately through the athletics manager.

City recreation facility reservations should be made at least 60 days in advance. If your party date is close, check the timing with the office early, because a space you want may already be booked. Once a date and location are confirmed, you can plan the character visit around that schedule.

Ask the venue whether outside entertainers are allowed on the grounds and whether there are any rules about costumes, sound, or where a performer can set up. Ask about electrical access if a sound system or lighting is part of the plan, and whether the space has a covered area in case of weather. Once you know the venue's answers, you can choose a character and talk through the activities that fit the space.
