Let the child choose between a wave, a brief hello or watching nearby. Keep a trusted adult close and avoid rushing the first moment.
Offer a simple group greeting or optional turns for photos. Leave room for children who would rather watch.
Check the facility's booking route and ask its operator about setup and entertainment permission. Share the arrival plan with our team and confirm program details, cost and availability.
For a Colchester gathering, keep the character's first appearance simple and give the child control over the greeting. A wave from the doorway, a hello beside a trusted adult or a quiet moment to watch can all work. Once the child is ready, offer a short photo opportunity and let guests join in at their own pace. The organizer can prevent last-minute confusion by confirming where the visit will happen and who will meet the character. Check the facility's booking process separately from event permissions, and confirm program details, cost and availability with our team.
Useful rules and places to check, each with its official source.
Washington State Parks identifies reservation types that require its call center. Check the actual facility type and booking channel before trying to secure a picnic shelter or group space online. Verify access, setup and permission for hired entertainment separately with the operator; a reservation route is not event approval.
Official source (opens in a new tab)For any outdoor gathering, arrange an accessible indoor backup before the party. National Weather Service guidance identifies buildings with wiring and plumbing as stronger protection; an open picnic shelter is not a lightning backup. This is national planning guidance, not a local venue rule.
